The Terry Lumber Company sawmill property at Round Mountain was part of the upper end of Joseph E. Terry’s extensive lumber operation in Shasta County. Acquired by Terry in 1897, the property included the mountain sawmill, surrounding timberlands, logging facilities, and transportation infrastructure. Lumber was cut at the Round Mountain mill and sent downhill through the company’s famous lumber flume to the finishing and shipping facilities at Bella Vista. The mill remained active into the early twentieth century and played an important role in the lumber industry that developed around Round Mountain. Journey with me as we explore what remains of this historic property today, with the permission of property owner Tony Ortega. Please do not trespass. This is private property.
